Two TotalEnergies service stations in the Kruger National Park to be solarised
Construction is currently underway to convert the service stations to run on solar power
2018 marks the 60th anniversary of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa’s partnership with South African National Parks. The two organizations entered this partnership in 1958, with Total South Africa to providing fuel services to all national parks around the country.
The partnership has seen TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa not only establishing and operating 21 service stations but, over the years, Total has also contributed extensively to several environmental projects at South African National Parks (SANParks), such as sponsorship of the Kudu Awards and SA National Parks Week.
TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa sponsors the annual SANParks Keep the Kruger Clean campaign, during which staff members, community members and school children from communities close to the Kruger National Park join forces for one full day to participate in a clean-up campaign as well as the SANParks Walk and Learn on the Wild Side Project. This is a project for school children in rural based schools who are studying Tourism in Grades 10 to 12. The learners are taken to spend one week in the Kruger National Park, learning about the importance of conservation.
To celebrate the 60-year partnership, TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa and SANParks have a line-up of exciting activities planned over the course of this year. This year will once again see South Africans given one week free access to visit and experience the wild side of life at a national park of their choice, excluding the Boulders section of Table Mountain National Park and Namaqua National Park. While entry will be free in that week, commercial activities will still need to be paid for. This opportunity intends to encourage people who would have previously not had the means to access the nation’s parks to explore new places, discover open spaces and enjoy affordable vacations in South Africa’s amazing natural environment.
